[Review] beauty and monster.
The other day, the long -awaited premiere of the remake of one of the most, probably, favorite cartoons of Disney studio, beauty and monster. After viewing, I would like to write a small review of this picture.
Plot:
The background of the film is almost the same as the original cartoon, only we were shown in all its glory (probably). Once upon a time there was a spoiled prince, to whom the old beggar once knocked and asked for an overnight stay in return for a rose. Young man, looking at her squeamishly, drives out the old woman.
An elderly woman warned the prince that real beauty was hiding inside and again asked inside, but he still kicked her out (although in the film, despite the words of the storyteller, this moment is not). Unfortunately, the old woman turned out to be an excellent sorceress, who, as a punishment for rudeness, turned him into a disgusting beast, simultaneously making all the servants in the castle of a revived antiques and erasing the memory of all people about the prince and his castle.
Now he must find a girl whom he will love and who will love him, despite his appearance, before the last rose petal leaves left by the sorceress falls. If he does not have time, then he will forever remain a monster, and his servants will die becoming an ordinary antiques. The years have passed the monster lost hope, because who will love him like him?
Young girl Belle Belle for a long time with her father moved to a small provincial town. However, the life of an ordinary peasant woman is not for her, she dreams of more, about adventure, travelers, and she just wants to see the world. And then one day her father goes missing and the search leads the girl to the monster castle.
Now about the plot itself. Despite the fact that the “beauty and the monster” is almost one of the best Disney cartoons, she had a lot of problems. One of its largest shortcomings was the speed of time. In the original, the times of the year were replaced in a couple of days, and since important plot moments depend in the cartoon from time to time in the cartoon, what is happening in moments resembles the nonsense of a madman. The remake corrected this assumption. But his problems over time he had no less, if not more.
Let’s start with the original. Like a Phillip, the horse Belle, at the beginning of the cartoon led her to the monster’s castle if he was not there when Belle managed to turn into his standard outfit from a ballroom dress closer to the end of the cartoon, if she was in a hurry to save his father, as Maurice did not die in the forest, if he assumed that he was looking for Belle all winter and did not even wear a coat?
The sorceress, after she overlaid the curse, https://bettingsitesnogamstop.co.uk/review/love-casino/ lived all this time in the village, doing the same as in the beginning, only in a younger form. For what? When Belle with his father moved to the town? This is unlikely to be in infancy, because judging by one of the new songs, she remembers Paris and lived in it for a while. I wildly doubt that these are her infant memories. Perhaps Morris worked as an artist and a toy in Paris for some time, and then, having accumulated money, moved to a provincial town. How much the monster was in his satire guise, because the servants in the castle have quite a few relatives in the village, for example, the husband of M-S Potts lived in the town, for a long period (10 years as in the original), the village should not have been growing up and not recognize their relatives.Everyone will recognize each other at the end as if not even a couple of years have passed. The monster has another magic toy in the film, a book that moves it to any place on earth. Belle uses it to get to Paris to see the house of his childhood. After that, the book is not used anywhere, although it could be found at the end. Or the book does not act long and would move it to the castle after some time. So why didn’t they show it? Generally how this book works? Why do servants blame themselves for not being prevented by the prince’s father in terrible education. You could somehow resist your master? Or the mistress was only the mother of the prince?
Acting:
What about the cast, then I have a contradictory opinion. Purely outwardly, no actor looks like his analogue from the original cartoon. In addition, half of the cast is black, which causes conflicting sensations, given what era the events of the film take place. But it pleases that with their roles actors, whether they are white or black, do it well to excellent.
The main character, Belle, was played by Emma Watson, known for the films of the Garia Potter series. Despite the fact that, as I already wrote, she does not look like her prototype, she was very successful if she forgets about the original Belle. Although no one taught how to sing Watson perfectly. And this is required when choosing an actress for this role.
The monster was performed by Dan Stevens, known for the more on the series Abbey Dauntown. And here I want to praise the actor and scold designers. Stevens showed a rather sarcastic character, with his tastes and interests. In the film we are shown why it turned out to be so nervous and arrogant and why the servants did not stop serving him, although because of him they risk dying with a rather brutal death.
The role of Gaston, the main antagonist of the cartoon, was played by Luke Evans, who had previously starred in the last 2 hobbits and in the film “Dracula: Untold”. And here everything is quite ambiguous. Evans played his role perfectly, you should not even argue. But the creators have already processed Gaston too much (more under the spoiler). Gaston in this version is a former officer who returned to his native town after the war and did not find another hobby, how to pursue Belle wherever she went.
In this version, Gaston was so touched by his mind from the worried in the war that the only way to reassure him to remind him of her. Even in the film itself there is a small hint that for some time it was treated in a shelter for mentally ill! How he was released from there?
About the rest of the cast, everything is pretty good. The roles of servants in the film were played by Yuen McGregor (Obi-Wan from 1-3 episode of the star warrior, in the film he plays the role of Lumier, Candelabra), Ian McCelene (Gandalph of the Lord of the Rings and Magneto of the X-Men, plays the role of Kogsvordo, watches), Emma Thompson (winner 2 Oscars and 2 golden and 2 goldenGlobusov, in the film she is m-s Potts, a kettle), as well as Stanley Tuchchi (in the film Maestro Kadenza, a new character in a fairy tale turned into a clavichord), Odra MacDonald (plays the role of a cabinet, although taking into account the vocal abilities of the actress, one could allocate more time to her), Guga Mbata-Rou (plumeta, lumber of Lumier, turned into a turn intoMettle Blood) and Nathan Mack (chip, son M-s sweat, turned into a cup). The actors coped with their work incomparably, although there are claims to Watson. The role of Father Belle Maurice was played by Kevin Klein and here he is no longer an inventor, but simply an artist and a good toy master.
And, finally, the most scandalous character of this film, the assistant Gaston Lef performed Josh Gad (snowman from Frozen). In the new version, Lefa is homosexual, which caused a large number of scandals around the world. In some countries, the film was even banned because of this. But don’t worry about this in order to give the ground a couple of jokes. So his orientation is allocated about 20-30 seconds from the entire film that can be safely thrown away, although one moment will have to be tinker. In the rest of his time, he plays the role of the voice of the mind and the conscience of his advanced.
Songs:
What is time to talk about the contradictory place of this film. So the basis of the first film was bright and memorable songs. And in this moment the new version is very inferior to the old. Old songs are well performed, but no more, although visually and set just great. The new songs are performed simply great, and what they liked that they are sad. In the original cartoon there was not enough tragic. After all, it was nowhere to say what would happen to the servants if the spell is not removed. And this lacked the original, a small note of drama, which is present in the new film.
In the original cartoon, exactly 2 songs Be Oour Guest and Beauty and the Beast stood out most clearly of all. The first song plays at the moment when the servants decide to feed Belle, this never happened in both versions. True in the film Belle Dali Pie. Although in the film it may have fed after the show.
If the version in the cartoon shows something impossible and magnificent, the version of the film is a well-staged performance. Lumier (in the cartoon voiced by Jerry Orbach), the main performer of the song, plays in a remake in some moments perfectly, while in others quite inaccurately destroying the end of some acrobatic tricks. This was done to show the composition of the servants in which they become less and less mobile and clumsy.
Beauty and the Beast in the original performed by Angella Lansbury made and visually and sink simply great. The singing of Emma Thompson cannot go in comparison with her. Do not think wrong, she sings well, but when it is necessary to lengthen the words to stay in the rhythm, she gets quite bad.
In the film, the songs of Days in the Sun and Evermore got into my soul. The firsthand of the castle sing, after the monster saved Belle from the wolves. As I already wrote all new songs in the film are quite sad and serve as a goal of injuring drama. The same song radiates a tiny ray of hope and uncertainty in the future characters.
The second song about how the monster releases Belle and understands that more likely more likely he will never see her. The song may be superfluous, but performed by Stevens not bad and glory.
Results:
You can talk about the film for a long time, but as a result your sensations. I did not expect me to like him. I listened to old songs, listened to the soundtrack of the film a week before the release, read the reviews of people who fell into the prerequisite and heard the news about Lef. But after watching the film to the end, I sharply changed my opinion. I wildly liked the middle and the finale, but I still seem disgusting to me. New scenes and songs perfectly complemented the cartoon 1991, adding a little drama. Although some details could allocate more time. Will you like this movie or not it’s hard to say. It is perceived more as an addition to the cartoon, not excellent, but not bad. Calling the film a paramedic copy also does not rise, since there are enough changes in it. If you need to bring the girl to the evening session in the cinema, you can buy tickets. Thank you for your attention.
